Who We Are

Bena Sportsworth Foundation (Solomon Islands) is a sports foundation based on a successful foundation initiated by Benendetta M. Kaloki (Bena) in Kenya in 2009. The Bena Sportsworth Foundation (SI), registered in the Solomon Islands, is a seperate legal entity from the Kenyan Foundation. The Bena Sportsworth Foundation Solomon Islands (BSWFSI) seeks to:

1. Search out, identify and promote sports talent among the Solomon Island youth thereby encouraging a healthy and responsible lifestyle.

2. Provide opportunities for disadvantaged women and youth to access activities that will improve their self esteem and provide empowerment.

Our History

BSWFSI was started by Benendetta M. Kaloki (Bena), a professional Kenyan boxer and former karateka, in a bid to make sports accessible to youth and women in general and to provide a pathway to a profitable career for talented persons. Bena recognises that Solomon Island youth face a myriad of challenges, chief among them being unemployment and an absence of hope for betterment. Feeling neglected and hopeless the youth are often tempted to engage in activities that are harmful, illegal and which result in damage to themselves and the society in which they live.

The formation of the original foundation in Kenya in 2009 was prompted by Bena’s achievements in the boxing arena and  among other sports. Her deep conviction that indeed, there lay a lot of untapped talent within the youth; talent which, if harnessed can help reduce the negative effects of unemployment, drug and substance abuse and ultimately improve security and society in general. These changes, little as they may seem, have the potential to make an impact on all sectors of the country.  A society with an active Youth Sports Program can provide a positive experience for youth where lessons for life are learnt and strong community values are developed, providing not only a benefit to the individual but to the society in which they belong.

Bena has formed the BSWFSI with the aim of replicating the successes of the foundation in Kenya. She recognises that domestic violence in the Solomon Islands is a significant issue and believes that access for women to sports programs , including self defence and/ or martial arts, will give them a physical outlet as well as increasing their confidence and provide them with empowerment which has the potential to lift struggling women out of terrible situations.

Our Principles

BSWFSI identifies the need to enhance sport accessibility in the society. This will be achieved through organizing and supporting various sports activities that seek to:

 1.  Provide women and girls with a safe place to develop confidence and self-determination.

 2. Create a platform for  youth  and disadvantaged women to use their talents in sports to develop skills useful in all areas of life,  assisting them to be    employable or to recognize their own entrepreneurial talents.

 2. Promote society cohesiveness and shun delinquent behaviours among our youths as they shift their mind and focus into sports.

 3.  Identify and promote various sports talents.

"A safe place to develop confidence and self-determination"
